Music Parents Association Meeting Minutes

Monday, April 25, 2011

7 p.m., Band Room

I. Call to Order: Presidents Fernando and Valerie Aenlle-Rocha called the meeting to order at 7:10 p.m.

II. Financial Report: CeCe Guiar distributed a Treasurer”s Report (see attached) for March , 2011 and summarized the salient points regarding income, expenses and budget shortfalls. The treasurers  have successfully collected dues from all Winter Color Guard and Drum Line participants.

The Treasurers submitted the 2011-2012 budget, which had been approved by the MPA Board of Directors. A drop in enrollment is expected based on the assumption that the music department enrollment will track District-wide enrollment. Further, the budget contemplates that the economic downturn will continue to cause a decline in donations to the annual Dinner Show. For that reason, MPA will begin to rely on a variety of fundraisers, including poinsettia sales, Macy’s Shopping Day, and sales of scrip. The only fee that will increase in next year’s budget is the Band Camp fee, rising from $310 to $400, to reflect that the Band camp week had previously operated at a deficit.

Elysa DelGuercio and Alison McQuay will debut the scrip fundrariser at the May 16 MPA General Meeting. The profit made on the sale of scrip will be split between the MPA and each student’s personal account.

III. Travel Committee: Linda Reisz reported that the Travel Committee has met twice and is receiving proposals from travel companies for the Spring 2012 trip. The top choice of destinations was determined to be Argentina.
