Music Parents Association Meeting Minutes
Monday, February 7, 2011
7 p.m., Band Room
I. Call to Order: Presidents Fernando and Valerie Aenlle-Rocha called the meeting to order at 7:14 p.m.
II. Financial Report: CeCe Guiar distributed a Treasurer”s Report (see attached) for January, 2011 and summarized the salient points regarding income, expenses and budget shortfalls. In particular, she noted that $5,000 was withdrawn on the uniform line and placed in a newly opened account constituting the uniform replacement fund. Similarly, the poinsettia line item was reduced by $2,675.00, and those monies were placed into a new account for the benefit of the individual students who have participated in fundraisers. The sum of $25,300.85 was paid to LCUSD for staff and technician salaries. Expenditures for props and supplies were attributable to Winter Color Guard flags and the uniform expenditures were for Winter Color Guard costumes. The treasurers are actively working to collect dues from Winter Color Guard and Drum Line participants. To date, only one of 13 Color Guard participants has paid dues and seven of 20 Winter Drum Line participants have paid.
III. Equipment: The Apples for Teachers money has been used to purchase a projector. Since their installation last month, the security cameras appear to have deterred thefts in the band room.
IV. Recent and Upcoming Events: The Winter Color Guard performed at their first show last Saturday and the Winter Drum Line will perform at their first show on February 19. There will be numerous opportunities to watch them perform throughout March and April, culminating in the Drum Line competition in Dayton, Ohio, April 13-17, 2011. The recent January 19, 2011 Chamber Music Concert was performed in a Theater in the Round style, with the audience seated on the stage. The Concerto Concert auditions will take place on February 15, the Music Festival will take place on March 25, and Club LC will be held on Saturday, March 26, 2011, not Sunday as originally scheduled. Also upcoming is the Orchestra trip to Disneyland on February 22, 2011. The Orchestra potluck party took place this past Saturday evening.
Mr. Stone solicited feedback from parents on the value of the parent orientation meeting held last spring. Parents expressed uniformly enthusiastic views and expressed appreciation for the advance notice of Band field show competitions dates, as well as band camp dates, and for communication of the strong message regarding the importance of payment of fees and all other financial contributions to the music program.
V. Fundraising Report: Donna Dohi reported that the Dinner Show will take place on Saturday, February 12, 2011, with all musical groups performing throughout the night, catering by The Spot, and raffle prizes that will include an iPad and XBox. There will be a Silent Auction, Live Auction and “Every Note Counts,” a solicitation of contributions for instruments. Students will participate by either loading and unloading equipment to be transported to the Glendale Civic Auditorium or arriving at 3 p.m. to participate in setting up at the Civic Auditorium. To date, $21,840 has been collected from sponsorship donations and ticket sales.
Future fundraising will include efforts to defray the cost of the Winter Drum Line trip to Dayton, Ohio.
