Spartan Booster Raffle Ticket Sale

We are again selling raffle tickets from the Spartan Boosters. 100% of the proceeds go directly to the Instrumental Music Program.
Raffle items include:
- Six (6) one-day park hopper passes for California Adventure/Disneyland
- Four (4) tickets to the Lakers vs. Clippers game on Nov. 27 (Section 219, Row 9)
The cost is $20 each. Checks can be made payable to, “LCHS Boosters.”

On Saturday, September 30th, our orchestra students have a wonderful opportunity to see Joshua Bell with the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra where our very own Ms. Munday will also be performing a concert, “Bell Plays Bernstein.” Click Here for More Concert Information.
The concert will begin at 8pm at the Alex Theater in Glendale. Ms. Munday has arranged for tickets to be at the special discounted rate of $8 per ticket (ticket starting prices are $27) and a limited number of adults may also attend at this price!
Please let us know if you are able to join by noon, September 15th, so that we can reserve seats together. Info to come on how and where you can purchase tickets. It would be nice to possibly make arrangements to have dinner together at a nearby restaurant in Glendale beforehand.

Thank you to the parents that came to Back to School Night! It was great to see familiar faces and get to meet new parents. It is so vital that you are supportive of your children’s musical life. They may not say it, but it means a lot to them!
Thank you very much to the families of Ian B., Eugene and Heather H., and Annie W. for their donations to Apples for Teachers for the Orchestra. This is a great program that really helps out our classes at the school. Again, thank you!
The Orchestra has been exploring three musical pieces since the start of the school year. This week, we will begin to look at something new in addition to our performance pieces.
First, over the summer, I developed what I am calling, “Competency Levels,” for the LCHS Orchestra. There are four levels for each instrument beginning with a moderate competency level and going up to an advanced level. I will be sharing this with the students this week and explaining how it will work. I am excited to implement this new program, as I see that it will help the students improve their skills over the years that they are working in Orchestra.
My second “new thing” is that I have put together, “Sight-reading Folders.” The school has an extensive music library, so I am collecting some of the standard repertoire for full orchestra music, and putting it into folders that we will bring out read every now and again. This will give the students practice in sight-reading, a good skill to develop, and also acquaint them with real world repertoire for full orchestra.

Saturday, I saw Hamilton. The hype is real and everyone should go see this amazing piece of art and history. It is truly amazing to see how easy the performers make the difficult timings of movement and song work. Hours of rehearsal and doing it again and again is the answer that always comes to mind. It’s the same at every level of the arts, practice, rehearsal, and performance all require the hard work and discipline to work at your craft. Keep up the good work this week and beyond, as all groups are getting into the flow of the school year and preparing for performances. Have a great week.

Poinsettia sales time will be here before we know it! This is a great fundraiser to put money into your student’s account. The Instrumental Music Program has sold these beautiful plants for the past several years and many in the community purchase them every year.
Volunteers are needed to help with the Poinsettia Sale Committee this fall. Please contact Sarah Nagel.

Orchestra is off to a great start! I think everyone is sounding really good and we are all getting in the groove of being back in school. Back to School night is this Wednesday, September 6th from 6pm to 8pm. Stop by the band room and say, “Hi!”

Monday had the Stone family at the movies watching Leap! It was an animated movie about dance that has both of my kids twirling and moving about our house. It was a sweet movie that showed that beyond the technique and hard work needed for dance, the arts, and beyond, one must have a passion about what they do. That passion shines through during performances, rehearsals, and alone practice time. It’s what drives all of us in everything we pursue. For everyone, let your passion shine and drive you to a happy life!
