Please join us for the all parent meetings this Wednesday, September 2nd.
At this meeting, there will be an overview of the program – as it is right now – but always subject to change. You’ll also have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have as well as find out how you can support the program.
Hope you are all well and settling into this new schedule. I know in my house, my lunch meetings with my kids and wife have been some of the highlights of my weeks.
Our instrumental students have been working hard and finding time to improve their playing, even while at home in the early hours. Thank you all for your support in keeping the music flowing through this difficult playing environment. Music makes all things better.
Wednesday night we will hold our opening information meeting about the instrumental music program. It’ll be an overview of the program and the Music Parents Association and how you can help support our great program. We will also try to give some insight into the year’s plans, even though everything is in complete flux.
Have a great week and I look forward to seeing you all on Wednesday night!
Week 3 and this week will see the orchestra branching out into music history and chamber music. The students are continuing to come to class and do their best! I am so impressed with all of them!
Come visit me during the 0 period slot on Zoom next week, Wednesday, September 9th, for Back to School Night. We can discuss the interesting concept of music on the internet. I’ll look forward to seeing you!
Our informational meeting for all parents is this Wednesday night, September 2nd. Hope you’ll join us!
Pick Up at Restaurant: 729 Foothill Blvd, La Canada, CA 91011
You all have been cooking at home for months! It’s time to take a night off and just have fun with your family!
Make every “Sunday Fun-Day”! Let Dona Maria cook awesome Mexican cuisine for your whole family!
Now, each Sunday from 4p-9p if you order and pick-up food and/or drinks from Dona Maria Mexican Restaurant in La Canada, they will donate a whopping 40% of the proceeds to the MPA (including soft and alcoholic drinks).
YOU MUST MENTION: “Your order is with La Canada High School Music Program fundraiser” – for LCHS Music to get the donation.
Dona Maria would appreciate if you can place orders earlier in the day and select a pick-up time to make scheduling orders easier.
WE NEED YOUR HELP! LCHS Music Parents Association pays for 10 of the 13 music instructors and 100% on all the other music program costs, including students’ instruments… over $125,000 each year! During these distance-learning stressful times, our children need music in their lives more than ever… and they need more instructors, not less, while they cannot practice together on campus.
Night Rehearsals start this week with on amazing instructional staff.
We will be continuing to build musicianship and movement skills as we move forward building our 2020 Online Marching Show Influencers: Black Artists Who Impacted the World.
The Parent meeting will fill you in on all the details of the Instrumental Music program for 2020-21! It’s a great place to learn and ask any questions you may have! Please mark your calendars now.
Thank you all for a great first week of school! We are working hard to figure out this new teaching environment and working to get the best music training and performance out of each student. Look for our hard work this Friday as the band, guard, and percussion are featured in our first assembly of the year. I am amazed with the professionalism that our students are working in to learn, record and turn in such great work in such a small turn around. Thank you all!
This Wednesday night at 7pm we will be having the first MPA meeting of the year. I invite everyone to come and sit in on our virtual meeting and see the great community of supporters who help make this Instrumental Music Program great. Come and join in and find out all the ways you as a parent can work to support your kids in our program.
Thank you to Orchestra students and parents for a great first week of school! The enthusiasm of the students was wonderful and I loved seeing all of them. This week, we start playing again and see how that will work. I am so encouraged by everyone’s can-do attitude! Great job, Orcas!
Parents, you are invited to attend the Music Parents Association (MPA) Zoom meeting this Wednesday at 7pm. This is our LCHS instrumental music support group and it’s great to have Orchestra parents join in!
Welcome Back! Summer is over and we are all back in school… still at home… but back in school! I am looking forward to beginning undoubtedly my most unusual start of school in my 24 years of teaching. The challenges will be spread out to everyone, but I am excited to try and overcome many of them, if not all of them, and still create some great music and even greater community.
7:40am Orchestra and 8:25am Band will be a major shock to all households, including my kids’ schools, my wife’s work, and the two dogs all in our house. Should be an exciting year!
Students should be linked into their Google Classroom and Remind system for links and info, and we will try to keep a clear line of communication through our weekly emails. Please look to these for the answers you seek. If we miss something, or you need greater clarification, please don’t hesitate to ask (email).
Finally, last week, the Band and Color Guard worked hard on their new fall show Influencers: Black Artists Who Impacted the World. The premiere of the show will be sometime in October, but we wanted to give you the Preview Show feeling, so we have a video for you. All of this was recorded by your children in their own homes, away from anyone else in the band (well.. except for siblings). So we hope you enjoy!
